The use of over-the-counter medicines does not normally class as a notifiable condition with regard to notifying the medical group for DVLA. However, what you and your driver must be aware of is the safety issues when using medicines that may have a side affect such as drowsiness. A driver taking certain medicines for flu or hay fever that suffer from drowsiness would have implications not only for their safety, but for the safety of other road users. The advice would be that if a driver goes to a doctor or a pharmacist then they should ask what the side affects of the medicines are and request another form of treatment or take the necessary precautions.
