Licence Bureau and Brake release a fleet report that explores a theme of technology in fleets.

Technology alone is not a panacea for road safety; safe driver behaviour and risk management policies and procedures are essential within fleets. Yet technology can form a vital part of the road risk management mix, and greatly aid safe driving, vehicles and journeys.

Mike Reed of Licence Bureau said: Once a technology device is installed in a vehicle that is used on company business then that company has the ability to act promptly on the safety data output. By resolving the identified safety issues they will improve both the driver and the company’s safety culture surrounding employee’s driving activities.

Many are aware that this is the new battleground where companies can control risk exposure via the vehicle. Companies no longer need to wait for terrible incidents to occur before action as technology is available to identify both poor and good behavioural driving traits. This use of technology leads proactively to improve safety, help save lives as well as delivering driving efficiencies.

138 fleet managers completed the survey, 131 of whom were UK-based. Respondents manage nearly 26,000 vehicles and 40,000 employees driving for work. The results cannot be generalised to the entire at-work driving fleet, but rather can be used to explore the technology used on fleets and can give an opportunity for benchmarking.
